A Black Belt Tradition

blackbel.gif

The Martial Arts have been passed down from one generation to another and are very rich in traditon and culture as a result. They survive the test of time largely due to the strong foundation of the traditional rules of respect and etiquette. The following should be applied by all serious students of Kwok Wu Chuen in accordance with the respectful traditions of our art.

Students should behave with respect and decorum for his/her enviroment and his/her Instructor and training partner.

Bow when entering or leaving the training area.

Bow when you see or approach the Master Instructor and Instructors.

When a Black Belt enters the training area students should stop and bow.

Students should always be respectful to the Master Instructor, Instructors, and any visiting Master or Instructor whether inside or outside the Academy.

The Master Instructor and Senior Instructors should always be met and accompanied by his/her juniors at all official functions as a mark of respect and position.

At social occasions, no one should begin a meal unless the most senior ranking person present has begun or signifies that others may begin.

When standing around the Master Instructors and Instructors proper etiquette requires that you put your hands behind your back.

When speaking during class students will stand at Choonbi.

Students should conduct themselves in proper manners at all times.

When training, be serious, focused, and ready to learn.

Obtaining the rank of Black Belt is just the beginning of your journey in the martial arts and it is an important responsibility. It represents your commitment and dedication to the art, Master Instructor, Instructors, Academy, fellow students, and yourself. All Senior Red Belts who intend to advance to the rank of Black Belt should learn and follow the Black Belt Code of Conduct; and the Academy has the right to withdraw or nullify a rank if any student is found guilty of breaking Academy rules, regulations, and policies. Your conduct and character are of utmost importance!

A Black Belt is a warrior-have honor in your words and actions!

Always be generous, supportive, and helpful to all students.

You should be the first to volunteer, the first to arrive, and the last to leave.

You should always attempt to attend all Academy activities and events.

Black Belts must have the initiative to help teach or assist with training classes whenever possible.

Black Belt is a continuous learning process which includes an active training schedule to improve skills and techniques and seek further advancement of knowledge.

Black Belts are required to attend all grading tests (promotions) and assist in conducting the test and supporting those who are testing.

Black Belts should always set good examples of conduct and attitude for the junior students to emulate.

Black Belts are leaders therefore you must possess and develop a strong character, confidence, and a positive attitude.

Comittment to Constant and Never-ending Improvement!
